"The Amigos are one of the hottest new bands to come to my attention. Singing, playing, dancing around the mic in bright matching shirts ... they have a visual thing going on that most bands lack... more fun and exciting than anything I could have imagined. They are new and refreshing, and I'm very proud of presenting them." -Gene Shay, WXPN
"If The Tres Amigos don't win you over with their toe-tapping, genre-busting music mix or their infectious enthusiasm, they'll get you with their matching western shirts." -John Platt, WFUV
"The Tres Amigos have their own loose-limbed charm...serving up a sprightly mixture of folk, country…and more." -The New Yorker
"Their harmonies are so in tune they defy technology... great swinging bebop solos, and every idiom done with love and understanding." - David Amram
The Amigos Band is a quintessential American folk band with a sound and style all their own. They have appeared in recent performances with Pete Seeger, New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band, bluegrass legends Tony Rice and the Del McCoury band, and Grammy-award winning Americana singer/songwriter Jim Lauderdale. They recently gave a sold-out performance at New York City's Lincoln Center and completed a successful residency at the famed Lower East Side club, The Living Room. The Amigos have been chosen to appear in the premier showcase at the 2012 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) conference and are featured on the first American Folk Art Museum album.
Careening back and forth between three-part harmony-singing and bursts of instrumental improvisation, The Amigos deliver daring takes on American standards and original songs that already sound like classics—all tightly arranged to suit the group's unique mix of alto saxophone, accordion, acoustic guitar, and hollerin' voices.
Avid students of American culture, The Amigos travel the country in search of unique sounds and collaborations. They relish in the genre-crossing, messy history of American music and believe in the importance of keeping these stories and songs alive and accessible to all people.
